Notebook Keyboard Misconfiguration: Letters Typing Numbers (u=4, i=5, o=6, etc.)

🔢 Notebook Keyboard Issue: Letters Typing Numbers (u=4, i=5, o=6, etc.)
Does your laptop keyboard look like this?
Does it have a Fn key and some keys with colored numbers like 4, 5, 6 on letters like U, I, O?
And when you type those keys, do numbers appear instead of letters?
What’s Happening?
You probably pressed Fn + Num Lock by accident. This happens often when using an external monitor and keyboard, and toggling Num Lock for the external keyboard's numeric pad.
🚫 Don’t:
- Reinstall the OS.
- Mess with complicated system settings.
✅ Quick Fixes to Try
Try pressing one of these key combinations simultaneously to toggle the embedded numeric keypad off:
Alt Gr + Num Lock
or
Fn + Num Lock
or
Fn + Insert
or
Fn + Delete
or (for Acer Aspire models):
Shift + Num Lock
That’s it!
Try these combos until your keyboard types letters normally again.
See you next time! 👋
